Trailhead 1/2 + ing A BANG ↑ dime... at The Loaf! Apr 27, 2009 04:25 PM
I thought I might have seriously miscalculated this weekend... Saturday I stayed close to home and got a bunch of stuff done. Shoveled loads of compost. Cleared away some brush. Banged out a few thousand words on the laptop. Lent moral support to my lovely gardener. All this with an eye on the weather. Beautiful blue skies and increasingly... more

Portland Press Herald Mainers to run-paddle-bike-hike-ski Inferno Apr 16, 2009 10:49 AM
By DEIRDRE FLEMING, Staff Writer Matt Lunt of Portland saw the Tuckerman Inferno race as a way to get back to where he was physically eight years ago when he ran track for Connecticut College. Needless to say, the training alone was an eye-opener. When Lunt lines up Saturday in New Hampshire, he'll set out to complete a grueling pentathlon. The ninth... more

INside the OUTside Don’t put those skis away yet! Apr 2, 2009 08:39 PM
By Dan Cassidy Now I know it may look like spring down here in the valley. There’s brown ground around the house, robins are flying about, wild turkeys are running all around, fishing season has opened and believe it or not, golfing season has started in some areas. But wait a minute! There’s still plenty of snow in the mountains... more

Pulptruck says, One last Loaf trip Mar 30, 2009 02:51 PM
We hit Sugarloaf on Saturday and enjoyed decent spring conditions in the morning. We went up top and climbed to the summit. Took a look down at the backside and thought about going for it, but didn't have my rockboard handy. A few hardy souls dropped in, but the coverage seemed pretty marginal. Snow was mostly loose-granular, corn. It was pretty... more

3/21. What an incredible day of skiing! The SL groomers made the conditions just perfect on the West side of the mountain. This was the day where we used the free tickets from Outdoor Journal. Thanks again! I've been a Loafer since 1970 (I was christened there) but I have only been there one time (2/17/09) in... more

rainbowmaker says, Spring Skiing Grows the Brain Mar 19, 2009 12:52 PM
Work and school are a real drag and clinical tests have shown that those two stressful activities might wilt your brain neurons and that spring is the time to feed and exercise those neurons. Get with the brain gain program, cut back on those stressfull activities and head to the Sugarloaf for the rest of the season. You don't want... more

Hardbooter says, Shawnee Peak Feb 25, 2009 01:12 PM
Monday, February 23rd was a very, very good day at Shawnee Peak. With snowfall totals all over the map in Maine, most would have said "head to Sugarloaf" but not when Shawnee Peak picked up 26" from the N'oreastah. The powder was great, the conditions were great and the sky was partly sunny. Trails like Kancamangus, the Glades and also... more
