The Dolly Sods wilderness in West Virginia lacks white birches, but with a little imagination will ease your homesickness if you'd rather be on the AT in Baxter Park. Cross country skiing in Blackwater Falls and around Canaan Valley in winter make me think of Maine when I can't get there. Next best thing is remembering. I can smell the balsalm.
