The
University of Maine Cooperative Extension regularly publishes a comprehensive catalog of interesting and useful books and publications on topics ranging from agriculture, business, food & health and home & family to natural resources, pests & plant diseases, safety & preparedness and yard & garden.
There's always one or two that catch my eye, and I figure you'll feel the same way. Better yet, this stuff comes pretty cheap. Good helpful info cheap. I like that.
Who's the Cooperative Extension you ask? These good folks help support the University of Maine's land grant public education mission by conducting community-driven, research-based program in Maine. In every county in Maine in fact. Yep, you'll find 17 offices across the state, ready and waiting to assist you. Way cool, eh? Yep.
What happens to all that research? Well, they publish it. Make it available for interested people like you and me.
I'm making out my order form right now. Here's a few of the publications that are on my list:
* Drying Fruits and Vegetables ($1)
* Facts on Edible Wild Greens in Maine ($0.75)
* How to Tap Maple Trees and Make Syrup ($0.75)
* Living Sustainably: It's Your Choice ($3.50)
* Conserving Wildlife in Maine's Developing Landscape ($1.50)
* Sustaining the Ecological Integrity of the Managed Forest: Principals & Practices for the Northeastern Forest ($0.75)
* Why Leaves Change Color ($0.50)
* Bird Feeding Basics ($1.25)
* Using a Map and Compass ($1.25)
* Basic First Aid ($0.75)
OK now, I've just made out my check for... $12.00. Whoa! That's a lot of good reading and good info for not a lot of cabbage. I like that too. Thanks Cooperative Extension!
