Yes, you read correctly. The dream of countless thirsty backpackers has come true!

The beer gods, in this case Trek'n Eat Foods, have developed and marketed a long awaited first: dehydrated beer.

Yep, it's for real.

Simply open the packet, add cold water and voila! You've got beer. Way out there on the dusty trail no less.

Sure, it's non-alcoholic, but good god, it's beer! Trail beer. And as I've always said, my favorite beer is the one in my hand. Yes, I'm that easy when it comes to beer. And this stuff sounds right up this hiker's alley.

Lightweight. Easy to pack. Easy to prepare. Easy to consume. Anywhere in the damn backcountry you want. Wow.

OK, so no, I haven't tried it yet. But I'll be contacting the Trek'n Eat folks ASAP for a few samples. And you know I'll be reporting back after I get to quaff a couple of wilderness brewskies-in-a-bag.

I'm figuring their going to be OK me thinks. We'll see. And taste.

Dehydrated beer for the trail. Better living (and hiking) through chemistry. Mark this day my good beer-swilling trail friends. A day that will live in hiking infamy...
